Each week, we’ll poll employees here and readers out in the blogosphere about some of their recommendations for food, drink, music and/or entertainment to indulge in over the weekend. Blogger Dave Choate is your guide to all things relaxing in this post.
National Foursquare Day
My co-worker pointed out earlier today that Saturday is Foursquare Day! I think the exclamation point is a required part of writing about it, if the website is any indication.
For those of you unfamiliar with the service, Foursquare allows users to “check in” at various restaurants, stores and other locations, and by doing so with frequency, they can earn badges or even become “mayor” of a location, which is useful for bragging rights in the social media circle. It’s sort of like video game achievements for people who like to shop and dine out, and occasionally businesses seize on Foursquare to offer discounts for those who visit often.
With the background out of the way, there are meet-ups across the country tomorrow, including one in my office’s backyard in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Basketball On The Rebound
The last couple of weeks of NBA basketball tend to be a slog, with teams sitting their best players as soon as they lock up playoff spots. The playoffs themselves, however, are entertaining in the extreme.
It’s a quality field this season, with the Chicago Bulls picking up their first top seed since the days of Michael Jordan in the East and the reliably boring San Antonio Spurs doing it in the West. Teams like the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat bring a ton of young talent to the equation, while the Boston Celtics will try to pull off one more championship with their creaky core of future Hall of Famers.
There’s four games each on Saturday and Sunday, so if you’re feeling like a real couch potato, it would be a good way to spend your weekend.
Make No Bones About The Meat House
The Meat House has gone from fledgling franchise to juggernaut in a short time, so chances are good that you don’t have to travel too far to find one if you’re in New England, California, Texas and North Carolina. If I have a food suggestion this week, The Meat House would be it.
Why? The food is fresh, the prices are reasonable enough for a good butcher and the marinated meats and individual marinades are anywhere from good to heavenly. I personally recommend the steak tips.
If you and your carnivorous side are fighting, I suggest…a salad? Those are always good.
Suggestions for future editions? We’d love to hear them in the comments.
