Technically, it’s courtesy of a partnership between the Washington Post and Bloomberg, but they only let me have so many characters in the titles of these posts.

This video with Michael Green, the CEO at Tenex Capital Management, which provides working capital and other services to small and mid-sized businesses, does a concise job of explaining some of the challenges facing small businesses and how to navigate them. It’s worth your time to watch, if you can rustle up five minutes.

I’ll let you explore the 4:23 minute video for yourselves, but I couldn’t resist expanding on the one piece of advice that is likely to strike you like it struck me. Green counsels businesses not to overreach: In other words, don’t try to aggressively do something exceptional that could cause your business to implode when you can have small, steady growth instead.

“Statistics say that over half of us are average,” Green said.
