A Dinosaur Of A Weekender: The Best BBQ Restaurant Going

My friends, I have come from Barbecue Mecca.

Last weekend during my vacation, I took a roadtrip down to Troy, New York, for a friend’s wedding. While Troy is in and of itself not a travel destination that springs readily to mind, it happens to have one of the best BBQ joints out there, a distinction it shares with New York City, Albany and a handful of others.

I refer to Dinosaur BBQ.

Now, a quick caveat. I am not a professional barbecue consumer, and when I’m describing a place to friends, it tends to include more general praise than the tossing around of words like “smoke” and “bark.” But I can tell you I know what tastes good, and Dinosaur tastes awfully good.

Oddly enough, the highlight for me was not the ribs or the incredible sides, which included a BBQ fried rice that offered a nice twist on the typical Chinese-style fried rice, but the Cuban sandwich. Your average Cuban—my favorite sandwich, in case you were wondering—includes pork, but not one of the best batches of pulled pork I’ve ever had.

The restaurant is looking to expand into other markets, including Boston, and hopefully will retain its quality level. But if you’re traveling to New York this weekend or any other weekend, check it out.

Your favorite BBQ joints/other restaurants?
